Jagannath Temple in Ranchi was built by king of Barkagarh Jagannathpur Thakur Ani Nath Shahdeo, during 1691. It was completed on 25 December 1691. It is located about 10 km from the main town, the temple is on top of a small hillock near to a place called Firayalal chowk (The temple is not located near Firayalal Chowk) or (Albert Ekka chowk) in Ranchi.

Similar to the famous Jagannath Temple in Puri, Odisha, this temple is built in the same architectural style, although smaller. And similar to the Rath Yatra in Puri, an annual fair cum rath yatra is held at this temple in the month ofAashaadha, attracting thousands of tribal and non-tribal devotees[2] not only from Ranchi but also from neighbouring villages and towns and is celebrated with much pomp and vigor.

The temple has been built on a hill top. To reach the top visitors can climb the stairs or take the vehicle route. There are many steps and the climber needs to rest intermittently before resuming. People also take the vehicle route leading directly to the top . To facilitate the arduous climb to the top the management of the temple have made provisions for fresh water and the shade of a huge tree that many tourists generally make use of once they reach the top. The view of the city from the top is breathtaking.

The temple collapsed on 6 August 1990. With the active participation of the then State Government of Bihar, and some devoted patrons the reconstruction of the temple started on 8 February 1992 and has now been fully restored. The temple has regained back its former glory. And devotees and ardent worshippers make a beeline to the temple every year

Location - The temple is located in the Dhurva region. This region is like the suburban area of Ranchi, lying on the outskirts. The location of the temple is Dhurva, Ranchi, Jharkhand.

Description - The temple is one of the most famous ones in Ranchi. My personal experience with the temple was really calming and soothing one. The temple is a

beautiful one. The building is quite high. Moreover, to reach the building you have two routes. The first one is through the stairs, which is used by people who love walking and believe me, there are just enough stairs to make you tired and harassed and by the time you reach the temple, you will be a bit tired. The second route to approach the temple is through the vehicles route.

The vehicle route is by the side of the temple, coming round the temple through the main road and you can easily drive you car or motorbike, to the top, to the
temple.

Inside the main temple, you have enough space to make yourself rest. Yes, you do not have too much area, but enough for you to sit down and take rest. The temple is not extremely big, but then there is something about the temple which attracts tourists from around the world. Well, inside the main campus, you have a big tree under which you can lie down and take rest, enjoying the shadow. Moreover, it is the sympathy of the management that there are two huge water tanks, killing the thirst of the tourists. Moreover, you have the main temple, which is
really beautiful and the idol is also really good. According to me, this place deserves you to go there and see it, especially if you are a person from Bihar or Jharkhand.

Now, as a concluding part, I would like to reveal the special thing about the temple. The special thing about the temple which even the atheists will like is that from the temple, I mean, from the outside of the temple but remaining on the top, you can nearly see the whole view of Ranchi and it looks so beautiful, I cannot just define in words, but this picture will clear your vagueness about the scenic beauty.
